Ilford Sportsman 1

The technical stuff:

Camera Type:- 35mm Compact Viewfinder

Lens Type:- Fixed, Dacora 45mm f3.5 - f16

Shutter:- Vario, 3 speed + B 25/50/200

Obtained through the infamous ebay auction site I was pleasantly surprised by the general condition of this early camera. The lens elements needed a bit of a clean, which is not unusual for a camera of this age. Other than that I have done nothing to it, however, there is something inside the top cover which rattles when I shake the camera. Based on the fine old engineering principle "if it ain't broke don't fix it" I have left well alone, the camera appears to function fine despite the rattle. Given the poor weather conditions for the test run I did manage to get some quite respectable pictures which gives me hope that it will be very good when the weather improves. The sample pictures are all from the first roll. This particular model, with the Vario shutter, seems to have a much smoother action than the Prontor, which keeps camera shake under control.
