Fujica STX1

The technical stuff:

Type: Single Lens Reflex

Lens: Fujinon f2 - f16 55mm

Shutter: Focal Plane Cloth Blind 2sec - 1/700th

This is the budget member of the ST range with a smaller lens and limited speeds. This particular model has a bayonet lens mount unlike the screw mount on my ST801 which limits its versatility. It's similar to PK mount but not quite so it will need either Fujinon lenses or an adapter, either of which will not be easy to find. It is, however, in super condition throughout and feels really good so I am hoping for some really nice pictures.

I am pleased to report that I have not been disappointed, in fact I am stunned by the quality of the results. Having run film through the ST801 and found it to be mediocre, at best, I wasn't expecting too much from this STX. They both say Fujica on the front of the prism housing but that is where the similarity ends. This is a delight to use, the weight, balance, and overall handling of this model are really comfortable, for me. The focusing is smooth and easy and the shutter release is just right for pressure, not too heavy but not so light that it fires unexpectedly. As for the lens, this is simply terrific. It has returned absolutely pin sharp results with accurate exposure, in fact, this is one of the few cameras that I have taken out on a first date that produced an almost full set of useable images. The one bad one, which was overexposed, was my fault anyway for being over ambitious. Truly a gem from the Fujica Camera Company.
